Places to visit

The city is an enchanting mix of history, culture, art and cuisine with a capital C. Surely you have already put on your agenda a visit to the Uffizi Gallery, which is one of the most visited museums in our beautiful country every year: here Botticelli’s Venus and Spring, Michelangelo’s David and many other world-class works of art are exhibited. Once you have parked your car, you can explore Dante’s city in its entirety, very comfortably, given its small size compared to many other capitals.

Over the centuries, the city has hosted such notable personalities as Leonardo da Vinci, Galileo, Dante Alighieri, Amerigo Vespucci and many others. It is the birthplace of the Italian language and the cradle of the Renaissance. Every Florentine visit cannot fail to pass by Piazza della Signoria, but also by the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore. Dedicated to the Virgin of the Flowers, Florence’s main church boasts a stunning Renaissance dome designed by Filippo Brunelleschi, the craftsman who skilfully modeled many of Florence’s most renowned landscapes. It shows immediately an exuberant exterior, while the interior is more austere. Admission to the cathedral is free, with access to the Baptistery, bell tower and dome reserved for special ticket holders.

Another one of the most important tourist attractions in Florence is undoubtedly Piazzale Michelangelo: a very advantageous point from which to enjoy a beautiful view of the entire historic center of the city bathed by the Arno. Many tourists come here for an incomparable photo opportunity: the top of this hillock is traditionally reached on foot, but there are parking facilities for those who wish to get there comfortably on four wheels.

Traffic info

Florence’s ZTLs, as in many other cities, are divided into areas A, B and O, with area A being the most central area with the strictest restrictions, accessible only to those with a special permit, even if you have a permit for areas B or O. Some areas, such as Piazza del Duomo, Via Tornabuoni, Piazza della Signoria and Piazza Pitti, are completely pedestrianized, with access reserved for taxis, ambulances and very few other vehicles. The ZTL is active on weekdays from 7.30 am to 8 pm and on Saturdays until 4 pm. After these times and on Sundays, access is permitted to everyone, with some exceptions to be taken into account always with regard to zones and times.

Florence is a magical city that steals the hearts of millions of tourists every year. Exploring it with a car is undoubtedly the wisest choice for those who do not want to deprive themselves of the freedom to move freely according to their own timetable, as well as for those who want to explore the wonderful Florentine hinterland with all its culinary and scenic beauty.

For many travelers, having the convenience of being able to turn to a safe and reliable car hire company that is practical and close to the airport is an indispensable step for a comfortable and pleasant stay. Many others, on the contrary, still live with the prejudice and misconception that renting a car is a complex, difficult and above all expensive process. At RIM Autonoleggio we will convince everyone otherwise!
